Ghost Towns of Southwestern Utah

Grafton is the site of filming “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It was settled in 1859. From Rockville, go west on the Smithsonian Butte National Backcountry byway for 3 miles on the south side of the Virgin River.

Silver Reef, near Leeds is off of I-15, you’ll find the remains of an 1870’s mining town. The Wells Fargo building (newly restored) is on the National Historic Register. A township map allows the visitor to see what Silver Reef once was.

Paria is thirty-three miles east of Kanab. Take highway 89 to a dirt road thru BLM land to the movie set. Paria was settled in 1870.
